While people in the Caribbean assess the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma, others in the storm's path are bracing for the worst.
A pair of ex-Montrealers on either side of the storm told their stories on CJAD 800's Andrew Carter Show on Friday morning.
Imogen Gough spoke to Andrew from the island of Anguilla, which bore the full brunt of Irma on Wednesday.
"There's entire buildings missing. The entire island is devastated," she said.
Gough rode the storm out at home with three other people, and told Andrew that anything not made of concrete suffered at least some damage.
"The Three Little Pigs had it right. They really did," she said, "because anything that was made of concrete was okay. But paint peeled and there are windows broken. Even things that were boarded up, the boards were literally blown off. It was quite a moment."
The eye of the storm passed over the British island territory with top sustained winds of more than 250 kilometres an hour. After the storm passed, Gough described what she saw.
"Lines down all over the road. The island looks completely different. I can see the beach from my front step now, and I couldn't do that before. Every tree is gone."
