Three weeks of fun and festivals proved to be profitable for a number of Montreal police officers.
In the three week period between July 16 and August 7 they racked up 9100 hours in overtime.
Radio Canada says that amounted to about $650,000 in extra pay.
The officers were pressed into service to provide security for events that included the Formula E Grand Prix, Just for Laughs, and the International Fireworks Competition.
Much of the work included traffic control but under the new police contract most of those tasks will be given to police cadets in the future.
The city estimates the agreement will resulting in savings of about $6.2 million annually.
