Here's a partial list of what will carry on as normal and what won't on Thanksgiving Day.
• banks
• most government offices and service counters (including Passport Canada and the SAAQ)
• the Montreal municipal court
• Loto-Quebec offices (just incase you hit the jackpot over the weekend and want to go downtown to claim it while the streets are relatively free of traffic)
• no mail delivery and no service at Canada Post post offices — except for postal counters in drug stores and other private businesses which are open
• four of six commuter train lines (Candiac, St. Hilaire and Mascouche lines won't run; neither will the Deux-Montagnes line, which will be shut down for track maintenance)
• most malls and most retail, grocery, drug and liquor stores are expected to remain open (though hours may vary)
• the city's large public markets, including the Atwater, Jean-Talon and Bonsecours markets
• the city's major attractions, including La Ronde, the Biodome, Botanical Gardens, Science Centre, Insectarium and Planetarium
• garbage pickup generally should continue as usual, except for a few isolated towns and boroughs. (Phone Montreal's 3-1-1 hotline, or check with your city or town.)
• schedules for Montreal's arenas, sports centres, swimming pools and libraries vary, depending on the borough. Some will open, some won't. (Again, check with 3-1-1.)
• AMT's Vaudreuil-Hudson, St. Jerome lines will be the only ones running — on weekend schedules.
• Metros and buses in Montreal, Laval and Longueuil will run on weekend schedules.
