Not everything will grind to a halt on Thanksgiving Day Monday. In fact, you'll be able to get your shopping done at most places.
Here's a partial list of what will be operating normally, and what won't:
CLOSED:
• banks
• most government offices and municipal court
• no mail delivery and no service at Canada Post post offices — except for postal counters in drug stores and other private businesses which are open
• The AMT's Deux-Montagnes commuter train line will be out of commission this weekend for track maintenance.
• The other AMT commuter lines that don't usually run on weekends will not run on Monday — the Candiac, St. Hilaire and Mascouche lines.
OPEN:
• most malls and most retail, grocery, drug and liquor stores are expected to remain open. (Westmount Square's mall, however, is expected to be closed.)
• the city's large public markets, including the Atwater and Jean-Talon markets
• the city's major attractions, including the Biodome, Botanical Gardens, Science Centre, Insectarium and Planetarium
• garbage pickup generally should continue as usual, except for a few isolated towns and boroughs. (Phone Montreal's 3-1-1 hotline, or check with your city or town.)
• schedules for Montreal's arenas, sports centres, swimming pools and libraries vary, depending on the borough. Some will open, some won't. (Again, check with 3-1-1.)
• AMT's Vaudreuil-Hudson line will run on a Sunday schedule — though there will be no actual trains running between Vaudreuil and Dorion stations because of track maintenance work. A special bus service will be in place to ferry passengers.
• The other AMT line, the St. Jerome line, will run on a Sunday schedule.
• Metros and buses in Montreal, Laval and Longueuil will run on weekend schedules.
