The Laval School Commission has been ordered to pay compensation to a student burned with a chemical stolen during a science lab.
After swiping the sodium hydroxide during the class, a student poured it over a pal's head. The chemical burned right down to his brain.
The 15-year old needed daily treatment for weeks and was left with a bald spot on his scalp.
The friend said later he never would have pulled the prank if his teacher had properly explained the dangers of the chemical. He said he was left with the impression it would do no more harm than itching powder.
A court agreed the teacher should have been clearer with safety warnings and ordered the school board to pay the victim $15,000 dollars.
