Growing numbers of teachers are reporting that they are increasingly becoming victims of violence at the hands of the children they teach.
Le Devoir reports there has been an almost 50% increase in the past ten years, of teachers being attacked in the classroom.
In 2015, 420 teachers were injured by students, compared to 284 reported cases in 2005.
Union leaders say that often teachers feel as if school administrators dismiss their safety concerns and that younger teachers are more reluctant to report attacks for fear that their competency in managing a class will be called into question.
70% of the teachers who were hurt are women.
Some school administrators say there are protocols in place to deal with threats and acts of violence, but perhaps not all teachers and principals are aware of them.
