Taxi drivers are going before the Quebec Transport Commission today to argue that the $40 fixed rate between Trudeau Airport and downtown Montreal is no longer fair compensation.
They say downtown construction and the ongoing Turcot Interchange rebuild has caused so much congestion that the drive can now last up to two hours.
The drivers are asking that airport rides be metered, with a drop rate of $3.50 and a charge of $1.70 per kilometre.
The Transport Commission will consider the request and is also recommending an overall rate increase of 4.8%.
A decision is expected before the end of the year.
