The Coast Guard, firefighters and the Sûreté du Québec are jointly searching for a man in his thirties, who disappeared while swimming in the Soulanges Canal near the locks.
Police in Vaudreuil received a distress call around 6:30 this evening, when the man didn't resurface while swimming with another man in his fifties. That man is being interviewed by police to learn more about what happened.
An SQ spokesperson pointed out to the Montreal Gazette that swimming in the area is illegal, and that signs to that effect are posted, but that they're often ignored.
