The Roman Catholic Church in the Montreal region is launching a sweeping review of its personnel records, vowing truth and transparency about priests accused over the years of sexual misconduct.
Retired Superior Court Justice Anne-Marie Trahan will lead an independent team in sifting through decades of documentation.
Trahan tells La Presse she is willing as well to hear from victims of priest misconduct who never filed a complaint.
The work of the committee will start in September, and is expected to take up to two years.
The search will include documents from the dioceses of Montreal, Saint Jerome, Valleyfield, Saint-Jean-Longueuil and Joliette.
Montreal archbishop Christian Lepine says in order to heal itself, the church has to take stock of the sickness it is afflicted with.
