A woman who was left badly injured following a car accident in Town of Mount Royal in 2010 has been chosen as the co-chair of the government's first public consultation on road safety.
Transport Minister Laurent Lessard has named Claudia Di Iorio, and a retired police officer Alain Gelly to lead the cross-Quebec consultation with a goal of finding what he described as " innovative methods" of improving road safety.
The government wants to reduce road fatalities by 17% by 2020.
The consultations will be held in 11 cities between February 3 and March 3.
Di Iorio suffered multiple injuries and was in a coma for a month after the driver of the car she was in lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.
Two other women also suffered serious injuries.
The driver pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing injury and was sentenced to three year in prison.
