Organizers of Sunday's Montreal Marathon are cancelling the event because of high heat and humidity in the forecast.
Sunday's forecast high is expected to reach 30 degrees, with a Humidex level of close to 40.
"In consultation with medical services officials and our city partners, event organizers have determined that the unseasonably warm weather conditions are not suitable to provide a safe race experience for the 42.2 km distance," a statement from organizers reads. "The full marathon will therefore not take place. The 21.1km distance [the half-marathon] will start one hour earlier on Sunday morning, at 7:30 am, and will have a time limit of 3 hours."
The 10k race will start at 8:45 as scheduled, and will be limited to 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The 1k and 5k races will take place as scheduled on Saturday.
A 2007 marathon run during a heatwave in Chicago saw one participant die of heat exhaustion, and about 150 others sent to hospital. Organizers aren't keen on a repeat.
