What began as a tight race in the Cote-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace borough, eventually turned into a decisive win for Projet Montréal.
While voters were split right down the middle on which candidate should take the city’s top job, Sue Montgomery defeated incumbent borough mayor Russell Copeman handily. Project Montreal will also take three of the borough’s five city council seats.
Peter McQueen (Projet Montréal) will represent the Notre-Dame-de-Grace, Christian Arseneault (Projet Montréal) defeated Jeremy Searle to take the Loyola district seat, and Magda Popeneau (Projet Montréal) will represent the Cote-des-Neiges.
Marvin Rotrand (Coalition Montréal) and Lionel Perez (Équipe Coderre) both held their seats and will return to City Hall to represent Snowdon and Darlington respectively.
Valerie Plante and Denis Coderre both put special emphasis on the city’s largest voting borough, during the final weeks of the campaign. The candidates split the vote almost evenly, with Plante taking less than a hundred more votes than her opponent.
