At least one student is being questioned after rumours of a threat against a high school in Laval started circulating online late Tuesday.
Laval police were alerted Tuesday evening after online chatter about a threat against Laval Senior Academy started spreading.
As investigators tracked the rumour back to its source, they put several locations under surveillance overnight and then, shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, they arrested a student.
The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is insisting the threat was not credible and are describing it as a prank which will be used as a teachable moment to educate students about appropriate use of social media.
By late Wednesday afternoon, Laval police did not go so far as to dismiss the incident as a prank — they would only say they're still investigating.
The school was open on Wednesday, though Laval police posted officers at both Laval Senior Academy and the neighboring Laval Junior Academy — and even posted some officers on public transit buses during the morning rush.
