In an effort to reduce delays in the metro system the Montreal transit corporation begins a program this morning designed to help commuters hang onto their smartphones.
The STM estimates that half of the more than 500 service disruptions in the metro every year are caused by commuters who have dropped things onto the tracks from subway platforms.
La #STM distribuera des sangles pour cellulaires dans 8 stations achalandées les 18 et 19 décembre prochains aux heures de pointe. Une façon simple et pratique de réduire le risque d'échapper son appareil!

Today the STM begins handing out 5000 free smartphone retention straps.
This morning they will be at Berri-UQAM and the Bonaventure stations.
This afternoon they will be handing them out at Lionel Groulx and Jean Talon.
Wednesday morning they will be at the Mcgill and Université-de-Montréal stations and Wednesdayafternoon they will be available at Place des Arts and Rosemont.
The STM says the simple act of dropping purses, phones and bags onto the tracks causes about 19 hours of delays every year
