Wondering why there's hardly any flour, hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes on store shelves and sometimes still no toilet paper after the first round of panic buying last week?
The Retail Council of Canada says don't worry - there's no shortage of most items.
Marc Fortin, president of the Quebec wing of the Retail Council of Canada said the issue is there's not enough trucks and workers to deliver enough to meet demand.
"We do have them coming in the warehouse but there's only so many trucks to deliver and so many employees to get the deliveries out in the trucks and out in the stores and so many employees in the stores to get them out on shelves, so we're just trying to catch up," said Fortin in an interview with CJAD 800.
And the other issue is hoarding.
"But if everybody keeps on buying six months worth of toilet paper, four months worth of rice and enough flour to make bread for the next three months, it's not going to help anybody," said Fortin.
Fortin said it could be awhile before you see hand sanitizer back on the shelves because of the high demand and hospitals and other industries get priority.
The company that makes Five Roses flour and Robin Hood flour said in a statement to CJAD 800 they "are working closely with our retail partners to ensure they have sufficient supply to offset the recent increase in demand."
"Many retailers have already received new inventory and are starting to restock shelves," said Ray Hancart, director of communications and media Relations for the J.M. Smucker Company.
Toilet paper manufacturer Kruger Products said in its statement that they are ramping up production across the country to meet the increased demand. It said it's also "increased and expedited deliveries to retailers."
The Federation des producteurs d’oeufs du Quebec also reassured Quebecers that there is no shortage of eggs and that they are working on getting them quicker to the stores since they are redirecting deliveries that were meant for restaurants, some of which have closed temporarily.
Several people have been contacting yourstory@cjad.com saying it's been difficult to buy flour, hand sanitizer and other items.
