The chair of the Lester B. Pearson School Board is stepping away from her job for the foreseeable future.
Suanne Stein Day said she will be taking a personal leave of absence; Vice Chair Noel Burke will take over her duties.
Stein Day said the decision was hers alone, and it is in no way related to the controversy that has surrounded her since last fall.
Last November she admitted to breaching the board's code of ethics three times. She apologized and refused to step down despite calls for her resignation.
Stein Day could not say when how long she would be away, but noted it would likely be months as opposed to days or weeks.
