A man who, for years, was one of the public faces of the provincial police force is facing criminal charges.
47-year old SQ spokesman Benoit Richard is accused of faking documents for a woman who needed to pass a background check in order to work for the force.
La Presse says the woman was applying to be a dispatcher, which would have given her access to the confidential police database. That's why she needed the background check.
Richard was suspended with pay in the fall of 2016, when internal affairs began investigating.
He is now facing charges of abuse of trust and fabricating documents.
