A high profile member of the Sûreté du Québec has become the subject of an internal police investigation.
Sergeant Benoit Richard, a long-time spokesman and public face of the police department has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the inquiry.
La Presse reports that Richard is being investigated for breach of trust and forgery.
The police department does not name Richard, but has confirmed that a police officer is being investigated.
La Presse says Richard has not been arrested and is currently facing no criminal charges but is suspected of falsifying documents on behalf of friends for an undetermined reason.
