The reverberations from Spygate continue: Montreal's police union has sent a demand letter to chief of police Philippe Pichet to reveal what rank and file members were monitored over the last three years—and warning him to comply or things could escalate.
"We do not think it necessary to dwell at length on the emotion and worry such information has created with the ranks of the police that serve the city," reads the letter, filed to the court on Nov. 7.
The demand follows revelations Montreal police monitored the phone of La Presse columnist and CJAD 800 contributor Patrick Lagacé, and also spied on three other journalists to crack down on leaks to the media from within police ranks.
If Pichet refuses the request to reveal which officers could have been under watch, the letter from the Montreal Police Brotherhood warns of possible further legal action.
