The Montreal police department is planning to significantly increase the number of stun guns carried by officers on the streets of Montreal.
The goal is to have all police patrols equipped with taser guns by 2020.
Interim department head Martin Prud'homme also wants officers at the airport and in the metro carrying the weapons as well.
The move will address a coroner's recommendation following the death of Alain Magloire, a homeless man who was shot and killed during a police intervention.
The new stun guns are expected to be acquired rapidly with officers getting the necessary training in a couple of weeks.
