Pierrefonds resident Itsik Romano is suing the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro for $15,000 - the maximum amount allowed in small claims court - because of what he calls negligence that led to his bungalow getting flooded during last spring's floods.
Romano cites a media report which suggested a borough administrator ordered thousands of sandbags to be destroyed in early May, just before the floods hit De Maçons St., where he, his pregnant wife, and their four children live. He claims had the sandbags been available, his home might have been spared.
Romano accuses the borough of ignoring signs of flooding two weeks before it got worse.
Romano said he lost as much as $65,000 in personal items damaged by flooding.
He's received about $20,000 in government aid to help cover costs to clean up, demolish and decontaminate the flooded parts of his home.
