There's a report this morning that three of the four Russian intelligence officers expelled from Canada this week were working out of the consulate here in Montreal and were tasked with destabilizing the Montreal-based World Anti-Doping Agency.
The Globe and Mail is quoting an unnamed federal official as saying Russia targeted the agency in anger, after evidence of state-sponsored doping led to its athletes being barred from the recent Winter Olympics in South Korea.
The Globe says the intelligence operatives used social media in a bid to discredit the Anti-Doping Agency and to create tension between Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
