If you've spent any time in the city lately, you might have noticed that there's been a lot more rain than we're used to seeing at the beginning of summer.
We've rarely had several consecutive days of sunshine.
David Phillips, the senior climatologist at Environment Canada, can't say for sure exactly why it's happening, but will say there has been three times more rain this year — since the beginning of the year — than there was during the corresponding period last year.
He also can't say for sure whether or not these weather patterns could be linked to climate change.
"I often say that you can't look out the window and see climate change, climate change is over a long period of time," he says. "I think this is kind of weather."
Phillips says, however, there is some hope that the rest of the summer won't be quite as gloomy.
"Our models for capture are showing warmer than normal through the rest of July and into August," he says, noting that even though there've been a lot of rainy days since the solstice, temperatures have been hanging up around normal values.
He says he thinks there are a few beer drinking days left for us before the cold weather comes back around.
