The weather office says Tuesday in Montreal will be very, very messy.
On Monday morning, Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for Montreal and the surrounding area.
An Alberta clipper system coming in from the west is expected to gather moisture over the Great Lakes on Monday afternoon and evening. The current storm track suggests we'll begin to see some light snow from the system around 2 or 3 a.m. Tuesday. Then, it's expected to intensify at around 8 a.m., as the morning rush hour hits its peak.
There will be plenty of blowing snow, too — winds are expected to pick up to around 60 kilometres an hour.
The system is expected to provide a steady stream of snow throughout the day on Tuesday and well into the day Wednesday — as the clipper system meets up with a smaller system moving up from the mid-Atlantic states.
In all, we're expecting a total of 20 centimetres of snow for the Montreal area — which will likely mean a full mobilization of snow-clearing and snow-removal equipment.
And if you're planning on flying out of Montreal over the next couple of days, you might have to deal with delays or cancellations.
The storm is expected to move through the Toronto area later this afternoon, and already, there are several delays reported out of Toronto's airports.
