During the day on Monday, city crews are expected to finally complete the mammoth job of picking up the remnants of the huge snowstorm on Feb. 7.
Between that major storm, and a smaller snow dump which happened last Monday, the city saw more than 45 centimetres of snow fall on our streets.
Usually, a snow removal operation to clear the 35 centimetres of snow from Feb. 7 would take around a week to complete — but the city says the 10 centimetres or so which fell on Feb. 10 led to crews passing on some streets a second time, prolonging the operation by a few days.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, 9 of the 19 boroughs had completed their snow-removal operations, with the jobs in the other 10 on the verge of being completed. (Track the progress of the snow removal job here.)
Meanwhile, the city is expecting another five to 10 centimetres of snow during the day on Tuesday, followed by periods of rain during the evening — not enough snow for another major snow removal operation, but streets and sidewalks could be very messy by the end of it.
By Wednesday night, all of it is expected to freeze up quickly, as temperatures plummet to -20°C.
