The City of Montreal said they were prepared for the winter storm that took over on Sunday.
As many as one thousand snow clearing trucks and crew workers hit the road late Saturday night in anticipation, covering the roads and sidewalks with abrasives and rocks.
"The salt doesn't have an effect," said City of Montreal spokesperson, Philippe Sabourin. "It's too cold outside."
They prioritized clearing snow from steep hills, since they could be more dangerous with a combination of black ice.
"When we jugde it's appropriate, we go there more than once per hour," Sabourin said.
During such storms, the city advised people to stay at home as much as possible and to take care of clearing their entrance paths and fire escapes in the event of an emergency.
But if you're going to take snow clearing into your own hands, CJAD 800's medical correspondent, Dr. Mitch Shulman, said it's important to not over exert yourself.
"If you dont shovel on a regular basis, if you're not an athlete and fit, view shovelling as a high intensity physical activity," said Dr. Mitch.
He said it's best to be prepared, especially during a cold snap.
"Dress properly, warm up slowly, start gradually and do it slowly and give yourself breaks," Dr. Mitch said.
