With less than a year until the next provincial election the Liberal government is beginning to turn on the charm and loosen the purse strings.
La Presse reports that Finance Minister Carlos Leitao will roll out a proposal next week to cut taxes by about a billion dollars.
The government has a budget surplus of $2 billion and the report says the tax cut will amount to about $200 for an average taxpayer.
Meanwhile Le Devoir says on the heels of Premier Couillard's "We need you" speech to anglophones at the Quebec Liberal Party youth wing meeting last August, followed by the appointment of Kathleen Weil as Minister responsible for Anglophone Relations, the Liberals will debate five resolutions aimed at the anglophone community at the party convention in Quebec City the weekend of November 24.
Among them is a proposal to have all proposed legislation and regulations examined for their potential impact on the anglophone community.
The newspaper says delegates will also debate and vote on a resolution to ensure that anglophones are represented within the public service and decision-making bodies.
There is also a call for the Quebec government's statistics agency to study the anglophone population to better understand the makeup and needs of the community with emphasis on access to public services and the labour market.
