People lined up in the bone-chilling temperatures in anticipation of some of the best post-Christmas retail deals.
Doors flew open at most downtown stores around 1 p.m. on Boxing Day.
Some stores, especially a couple of department stores, were open earlier around 8 a.m.
Many took advantage of these early opening hours.
One shopper, Liam Cooper Brown, said he would have appreciated earlier openings for all of the stores.
"It's understandable that people, the day after Christmas, they want to not come to work at 7 a.m., but opening at 1 p.m. is kind of late," he said.
Valeria Tovar, a tourist from Mexico, said coming earlier on was a good idea.
"It's not as overwhelming as I thought it would be because I thought there would be many people, really full of people, but it's not," she said.
"It's really comfortable."
She enjoyed the deals, too.
"It's amazing. You can buy a lot of stuff here with the discounts and in Mexico we don't have this," Tovar said.
But not everyone was thrilled with the experience.
Shoppers Naveen Cunti and Christian Diaz didn't get what they were hoping for.
"I especially came to buy a Macbook, but it's not a reasonable deal," Cunti said.
"I came specifically for one device I wanted and it was sold out," Diaz said.
Though retail stores were busy on Boxing Day, a survey from the Conseil Quebecois du Commerce de Detail (CQCD), a Quebec-based retail association, found only 27 per cent of survey respondents planned on shopping in-person during Boxing Day.
Instead, 42% of Quebecers are opting for Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions.
