This unusual late-September heat wave will come to a screeching halt on Wednesday afternoon, with a potentially severe thunderstorm.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Montreal area for late this afternoon. For the moment, the heat warning that has been in place for the last few days remains in effect, as highs are expected to climb to around 30 degrees, with humidex values once again in the high 30s.
A cold front is expected to sweep through the region from the north at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday — and the cold air clashing with the hot can result in all kinds of severe weather, including hail, high winds, microbursts and even tornadoes.
The storm is expected to arrive by the Wednesday afternoon rush hour, and is expected to drench the area for several hours.
Temperatures are expected to be closer to normal values for the rest of the week.
