Martine Ouellet, the independence hardliner who finished third in the recent Parti Québécois leadership campaign, says she considering a run for the leadership of the Bloc Québécois.
Radio-Canada reports the PQ MNA for the south shore riding of Vachon is currently in the midst of reflection. The network also reports a letter signed by five Bloc militants is urging Ouellet to make the jump to federal politics.
Earlier this week, interim leader Rhéal Fortin announced he doesn't want to take the job on a permanent basis, saying his decision is in the best interests of the party, of Quebec and of the separatist movement.
Fortin is one of 10 Bloc MPs who won seats in the 2015 election. Gilles Duceppe led the party in that election, but failed in his bid to win his old Laurier-Ste. Marie seat. The party received 19.3 per cent of the popular vote in Quebec — an all-time low.
The Bloc's next leadership race officially kicks off in February. So far, no one has entered the race to lead the party.
