There's some renewed hope that a long-standing dispute between the Transco school bus company and its 330 drivers might soon be over.
Both sides reached a tentative contract deal last week. If ratified, it will put an end to the threat of an unlimited general strike by drivers.
The drivers held three strike days earlier this winter — one in January and on two consecutive days last month.
The company provides bus services for the four main school boards on Montreal Island — the English Montreal, Lester B. Pearson, CSDM and the Marguerite-Bourgeoys school boards.
The union had reached a tentative agreement with the company last month, which was soundly rejected by union members, with 83 per cent voting to turn it down.
The union has been without a contract since last June. Drivers had been asking for a two percent pay increase.
We won't know what's in this new deal until the ratification vote happens.
