As many healthcare professionals across the province deal with long hours and poor working conditions, a pair of nurses in Saint-Jérôme is also dealing with a racially charged threat against them.
One night last month Jasmine Gervais and Viviane Saint-Louis, both originally from Haiti, were leaving work at the Centre d'Youville seniors home.
In the parking lot they found someone had slashed their tires and left a note on both of their windshields.
It read (in French):
"Go back to your country. I don't want to see you anymore in Youville, you stole our job. This is your first warning. The next time I will come to your house to make you understand, it'll be too late for you."
Both Saint-Jérôme police and the Health and Social Services Centre are investigating, but more than one month later the perpetrator has not been caught.
