A couple from Saint-Jérôme face a number of charges in connection with the death of their 52 day old infant girl last May after toxicology tests showed the presence of methamphetamine in the baby's blood which had been ingested from breast milk.
The coroner's report also indicates that the woman may have rolled over onto her baby in bed.
27 year old Mathieu-Charles Mongrain and 30 year old Sandra Laverdure were arrested late yesterday.
The Journal de Montreal says Laverdure has been charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life.
Mongrain also faces a charge of failing to provide the necessities of life.
The couple spent the night in custody and are scheduled to have a bail hearing today.
