The C-I-A has released a report alleging that the Russian government intended to do more than just meddle in the U-S presidential election in order to get Donald Trump in the White House.
According to the Washington Post, the agency told American senators it was "quite clear" Russia's goal was to increase Trump's chances of beating Hillary Clinton.
What's not clear is if the hackers were apparently operating under direct orders from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
CBS News Senior Political Editor Steve Chaggaris explained it's difficult to directly correlate Trump's win to alleged Russian involvement.
But the Trump transition has dismissed the spy agency's report -- saying intelligence comes from the same institutions that led the country into the Iraq War with claims Baghdad had weapons of mass destruction.
Some political analysts are expressing surprise that an incoming administration would disparage the C-I-A in order to defend Russia and its president.
Meantime, CBS News confirmed Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson is the top candidate to become Trump's Secretary of State.
Tillerson is said to have close ties to Russia and President Putin.
