86 dogs brought back to Montreal after being saved from a South Korean meat farm have a second chance at life thanks to Humane Society International... and Simon Cowell.
The dogs were part of a rescue that freed almost 200 dogs, and was funded in part by a $42,000 donation from the America's Got Talent and American Idol judge.
This operation marks the 13th canine meat factory to be shut by the society in the last three years. The rest of the dogs rescued are being treated at emergency shelters around the world.
Rebecca Aldworth, executive director of HSI Canada, told CTVNews Montreal: “These dogs have come from the worst place imaginable.
“These dogs are getting a second chance, which they really deserve."
Nara Kim, HSI’s South Korea dog meat campaigner, said that there is momentum building across Asia to end the dog meat trade.
