A lawyer from Victoriaville who chose to represent himself after being accused of drunk driving failed to convince a court of his innocence.
Guy Boisvert has been convicted of getting behind the wheel of his car with three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. He was fined $2,000 and given a one-year license suspension.
This case was unusual in another way.
48-year old Boisvert was arrested as he tried to drive away from the courthouse in Laval, where he had been defending a client accused of drunk driving.
During the proceedings, Crown prosecutors and police officers noticed that Boisvert smelled of booze, so they staked out the court house parking lot. He was arrested at a nearby gas station.
Boisvert has vowed to appeal the conviction but he has another problem on his hands now. As the Journal de Montreal reports, he was arrested again in January on another drunk driving charge.
