Almost 300 Quebecers were diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2017.
That is double the number of cases in 2016 and authorities say the increase is an indication that deer ticks are adapting to climate change and surviving mild winters while also expanding their territory.
295 Quebecers contracted the disease this year, compared to 179 in 2016.
Health care officials say prior to 2010 the only cases reported here were of Quebecers who were bitten outside the province.
This year, 127 cases were reported in the Eastern Townships, another 56 were reported in the Montérégie.
There were also five cases in the Outaouais, four in the Laurentians and three in the Lanaudière and Mauricie.
Ticks remain active between April and the end of November.
