It looks like the City of Montreal has a decision to make about contracting for upgrades to the Circuit Gilles-Villenueve.
The upgrades — which the Formula One brass decided were necessary if Montreal was to keep its annual Grand Prix in the city — were originally supposed to cost $33 million.
That was in 2014.
By the end of 2015, the estimate was bumped up to $48 million, with a promise to Formula One that the new paddocks would be ready for the 2019 Grand Prix.
Now, the lowest bid on the job puts the price tag at $76 million — more than double the original estimate.
La Presse reports that the city is going over the bids, to determine whether to accept one or issue another call for tenders.
