The former Montreal Forum downtown should be getting a major new tenant soon.
The owners of high-end Syrian restaurant Damas in Outremont are planning a huge project for the Pepsi Forum: a 20,000 square foot eatery and food market, according to La Presse.
The newspaper quotes the owners as saying they were inspired by Eataly, the mega Italian food hall and marketplace in New York City.
Ten thousand square feet will be devoted to food with a Middle Eastern focus: a restaurant with two dining rooms seating 100 and 150 as well as a bar; and a food market, cafe and takeout counter will take up the rest of the space.
The owners say they are working with producers, cheesemongers and farmers to come up with their own line of products.
They're hoping to open in September or at least before Christmas.
