Thin plastic grocery bags are supposed to become a thing of the past in Montreal as of Jan. 1, 2018 — but incoming mayor Valerie Plante may have something else to say about it.
Outgoing mayor Denis Coderre pushed the ban through city council in August of 2016, but during a news conference on Wednesday, Plante suggested she wanted to review all the information she has at her disposal before going ahead with a ban.
"We know there are different reports that don't say the same things," Plante said. "There's a study [from Recyc-Quebec] that's in the works. For me, it's important to gather all the information before making a decision."
She suggests it won't take long for her new administration to come to a decision.
