2016 will very likely prove to be a record year for the least amount of murders in Montreal.
Speaking on the Aaron Rand show, former Montreal lieutenant detective Steve Roberts says it's a far cry from years ago.
Among other things, he cites the biker gang war, which claimed roughly 150 lives and most mafia figures are either in jail awaiting trial or dead.
But there's more.
"Another thing that I noticed just before I retired that, especially it started at the Montreal General, (hospital), their emergency units are much more efficient than they used to be with the advance of medical equipment and techniques", said Roberts.
He added they've saved many lives that would have ended up as homocides.
Roberts also said it's a cycle and expects another upswing.
There've been 23 murders, so far, this year.
The record low is 28.
There were over a hundred murders a year in the mid 70's.
