If you get an email from the RCMP that says you owe money for an unpaid traffic ticket — it's a fake.
The Mounties have issued a warning about someone sending emails to Canadians with an official-looking RCMP logo, informing you you've been ticketed for negligent driving, and giving you a link suggesting there's "photographic evidence" of the supposed infraction.
Clicking on that link will expose your computer to harmful malware.
The Mounties say they don't send notices like that via email, and if you get one, don't reply to it, and instead, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
If you've been a victim of this scam, contact your local police detachment.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says if you receive a suspicious-looking email, check for things like spelling mistakes, or a shady-looking URL which appears when you mouse over the link.
And don't forget — if something looks crooked, it probably is.
