Police in the Dominican Republic say a Quebec man is unable to leave the country after attempting to have sex with a seven-year-old girl.
They say 69-year-old Yvon Joseph Ghislain Gaudet attempted to have sex with the girl, with the consent of her father.
The Quebecer was arrested at a hotel in the coastal town of Sasua on New Year's Eve. He's no longer being detained, but can't leave the country pending the outcome of the investigation.
Gaudet is said to have once worked as a journalist for Radio-Canada.
In a statement, Global Affairs Canada said they are "aware of a Canadian citizen under investigation in the Dominican Republic," but add, "due to the provisions of the Privacy Act, no further information can be disclosed."
