A 29 year old Quebecer who admitted to smuggling 35 kilograms of cocaine into Australia has been sentenced to seven and-a-half years in prison.
Isabelle Lagacé and two companions were arrested in August of 2016 after their cruise ship docked in Sydney.
Police had boarded the boat and found 95 kilograms of cocaine in their baggage.
Lagacé had pleaded guilty and with the 14 months she has served in detention will be eligible for parole in February of 2021.
Her friend, 23 year old Melina Roberge says she did not know the drugs were in their bags and has pleaded not guilty.
A third Quebecer, André Jorge Tamine ,was accused of smuggling 60 kilograms of cocaine in his luggage and has also pleaded not guilty.
Both will go to trial in February of next year.
