Quebec's economy minister is asking for a meeting with Canada's international trade minister to discuss the ongoing softwood lumber dispute with the U.S.
Dominique Anglade said today she would like to meet with Chrystia Freeland on Dec. 8.
Last Friday, the dispute reignited after American producers announced they were formally petitioning the U.S. government to impose duties against Canadian softwood lumber producers.
Anglade says she wants to make sure Quebec's interests are well represented at the negotiation table.
She's also asking for the federal government to create a program for loan guarantees in order to ensure Canada's lumber industry has continued access to the U.S. market.
The U.S. lumber producers say Canadian lumber is being sold for less than fair value in the United States.
