By sometime in the new year, you'll be able to check your medical files online.
Health minister Gaetan Barrette announced the creation of digital system called Carnet Santé Québec — basically, a health booklet of sorts — that would allow patients to see their prescription drug history, results of lab tests and x-rays, and even make appointments with their doctors, all with a few clicks.
It's a pilot project which will be introduced to patients in Laval and in Quebec City next month. He says if all goes well, the project will go province-wide by the summer.
"What we are going to be putting on the table by Jan. 5 is what is available," Barrette says, "but we hope to build it into a complete application where you will have access to all data that is digitized in some way."
He suggests some sensitive information, such as mental health information, will not be made available online.
Barrette also insists the system is well-protected against hacking, or possible security breaches.
"We have implemented the highest standards of security that have been applied, as we speak, within government," he says. "I don't remember any situations within our government where there's been a security breach. Those same security measures have been put in place for that application."
