The Couillard government will move today to ban police officers in Quebec from taking on a second job.
Public Safety Minister Martin Coiteux will make the announcement later today at the parliamentary commission on Bill 133.
It is the legislation that forces police officers to wear uniforms on the job.
The Journal de Montreal says the new regulation will apply to all police officers in Quebec and comes as a direct result of the police response to a major snowstorm last March that left hundreds of motorists stranded for hours on Highway 13.
It was later learned that a senior Sûreté du Québec officer who was responsible for highway operations that night was visiting a notary in his capacity as a real estate broker.
The new guidelines will permit police officers to only take on second jobs as police technology instructors, with the Armed Forces or if they get written consent from the police director.
