The province has announced $200 million in improvements to the Jewish General Hospital that will see patients get a lot more privacy.
Health minister Gaetan Barrette made that announcement on Monday morning.
The idea is to eliminate three- and four-patient rooms at the hospital, converting them to private and semi-private rooms.
The money is part of a larger renovation which is ongoing at the Jewish. Two years ago the hospital inaugurated its new critical-care wing, $430 million K pavilion, which doubled the amount of available space in the hospital and freed up space elsewhere in the building.
The renovations are expected to take time — up to five years, so as to make sure other services in the hospital aren't disrupted.
In recent weeks, the Couillard government has pledged millions for renovations to other hospitals, including the Lakeshore General Hospital and the Charles LeMoyne hospital in Greenfield Park.
