Quebec's health minister has reversed a decision from the previous Liberal government, which decided before the election not to cancel free flu shots for healthy seniors and infants, among others.
Danielle McCann said the flu vaccine will be again be free for children between the ages of 6 and 23 months, children between the ages of 2 and 17 years with certain chronic diseases, and pregnant women from the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
The free injection also includes adults with chronic illnesses, as well as those over 60.
The former Liberal government made the decision to do away with free flu shots for those groups, following a recommendation from a panel of immunization experts — but would have made a one-time exception if parents and adults requested the shot.
The next vaccination campaign is set to begin on Nov. 1.
