The Quebec Women’s Federation is warning it will have to cease its activities if new funding isn’t found.
On Sunday, President Melanie Sarazin called on the federal and provincial government to ensure a minimum level of funding for the organization to continue its basic functions.
Several high profile Quebecers from the feminist, union and academic communities have thrown their support behind the federation, which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. The federation was founded in 1966 by Therese Casgrain.
Sarazin said the federation has often struggled over its history and said she hopes it can continue operations for at least another 50 years.
Among the former presidents are Quebec Solidaire MNA Francoise David, Celine Signori, Vivian Barbot, Michele Asselin and Alexa Conradi.
The federation will launch a campaign between Dec. 12 and 31 to raise up to $10,000 before the end of the fiscal year.
